Modern salmon flies are an artistic expression of salmon fly tying where the tier's imagination and creativity can move freely.

Some tiers love to resemble the style of the real classic full dressed but with different colour and feathers combinations.

Other prefer to move on the free style side where the old rules are more or less broken One of the modern salmon fly tiers that is for me more inspiring is certainly my friend Paul Schmookler.

I consider him a sort of Traherne of our time.

His taste for the colour combinations and the fly structures is unique.

Personally, when I tie a modern fly I am more inclined towards a style that is still permeated with the classic rules and designs.
